I upgraded again and changed my P4 3.0 Ghz 512KB L2 cache for a P4 3.2 Ghz 1mo L2 cache.
The difference, besides this one is almost too times hadrer to cool down, in not really obvious.
The 512KB L2 cache series seems to be really faster indeed to handle services start, more reactive, even with 200Mhz less clock speed, but the one meg series is really more stable when it comes to heavy memory bandwidth usage.
The memory bandwidth is about 45% faster and this is a good thing when it comes to Elektronika live!

Et encore une mise � niveau !

J'ai chang� mon P4 3.0 Ghz 512KB L2 cache pour un P4 3.2 Ghz 1mo L2 cache.
La diff�rence n'est pas vraiment �vidente, � part le fait qu'il chauffe beaucoup plus.
La s�rie des 512Kb cache est bien plus r�active, lance les services bien plus vite, m�me avec 200Mhz de moins, mais la s�rie des 1 meg est heureusement bien plus stable quand il s'agit de g�rer beaucoup de bande passante m�moire.
La bande passante ram est � peu pr�s 45% plus importante et c'est tr�s pratique pour utiliser Elektronika live!

Ce mixer vid�o est, il faut le dire, super pratique. Dot� de 4 canaux vid�o, avec un preview sur chaque canal, la V-4 permet bon nombre de combinaisons, cam�ras, ordinateurs, lecteur DVD etc.
Une solution assez compl�te (on a jamais assez de pistes vid�os ) pour un set multi sources.
Pratique d'utilisation, synchronisable en midi, ou V-LINK (une nouvelle fonction cr��e par Edirol et Roland permettant le contr�le temps r�el d'une performance vid�o qui permet � l'utilisateur de d�clencher des clips et d'activer des effets vid�o et des transitions en temps r�el. N�cessite l'Edirol DV-7PR), la V-4 est tr�s pratique et tr�s simple d'utilisation.
Les effets inclus sont, comme g�n�ralement sur les consoles de mix vid�o, assez pauvres, mais la base y est, et il est possible d'assigner chaque bouton de la console � un effet particulier.

La V-4 transmet la m�me source vid�o � ses trois sorties (Composite x 2, S-Video x 1) pour le monitoring et l'affichage simultan� sans avoir recours � une bo�te de distribution.
Qualit� Vid�o Professionnelle :
Les sources vid�o entr�es sont enti�rement trait�es dans le domaine num�rique garantissant une qualit� vid�o professionnelle (13.5 MHz, 8-bit, 4:2:2, qualit� DV). Gr�ce � son traitement interne num�rique, il n'y a pas de perte de qualit� et la V-4 s'accorde parfaitement avec la projection sur grand �cran.
TBC / Synchroniseur d'images ind�pendant 2 canaux :
Les sources en entr�e traversent un circuit TBC (Time Base Correction) ind�pendant 2 canaux qui corrige le "time code". De m�me, un Synchroniseur d'images ind�pendant 2 canaux est appliqu� � ce stade aux deux sources. Ces traitements garantissent des transitions homog�nes ainsi qu'une image stable � tout moment.
Effets Num�riques sur 2 canaux ind�pendants :
La V-4 inclus une riche s�lection d'effets num�riques sur 2 canaux ind�pendants (voir caract�ristiques ci-dessous). Elle comporte aussi des effets tels que Incrustation d'Image, Chroma-Key et Luminance-Key. Vous pouvez affecter un effet � un bouton de la fa�ade avant, l'�diter et le sauvegarder dans l'un des huit espaces m�moire. Vos effets restent ainsi � port�e de main � tout moment.
T-Bar / Video Fader professionnel :
Le T-Bar permet des "cross fades" rapides et faciles. Une des innovations de la V-4 consiste en son unique T-bar / Cross fader rotatif qui fonctionne soit en mouvement avant-arri�re, soit se positionne transversalement pour permettre un mouvement de droite � gauche, id�al pour ceux habitu�s aux applications du type DJ et VJ. Le fader offre des transitions tr�s douces et harmonieuses gr�ce � sa r�solution de plus de 100 incr�ments. Construite autour d'un bo�tier m�tallique, la V-4 et son fader sont con�us pour durer m�me dans les conditions les plus exigeantes.
Utilisation simple :
La fa�ade avant de la V-4 pr�sente clairement chaque fonction et op�ration rendant ainsi son utilisation des plus intuitive. Vos performances s'en trouvent largement am�lior�es et vous n'aurez qu'� peine besoin de lire le manuel !
Fonction Preview (Aper�u) et Menus � l'�cran :

Vous pouvez ainsi conserver vos configurations les plus fr�quemment utilis�es dans les huit m�moires disponibles.
Synchronisation entre Audio et Vid�o/Connexion Equipement MIDI :
Les transitions et effets vid�o de la V-4 peuvent �tre synchronis�s par MIDI. Le tempo, en BPM (beats per minute) de ces transitions/effets peut �tre cal� sur le beat de la music ambiante en tapant sur le bouton Tap. Les fonctions de la V-4 peuvent aussi �tre contr�l�es par instruments MIDI tels que clavier ma�tre MIDI. This video mixer is very handy. With 4 video channels, all previewable, the V-4 allows a lot of combination : cameras, computers, DVD players ...

Video Mixer / Switcher with 4-ch input :
V-4 is equipped with four composite (RCA Pin) inputs plus two S-video (Y/C) inputs. V-4 offers scene transition of the four video sources with Dissolve, Wipes (with a total of about 200 variations), and Switching. The V-4 outputs the same video source to all the three jacks (Composite x 2, S-video x 1), for simultaneous monitoring and displaying, without resorting to external distribution boxes.
Professional Video Quality :
The input video sources are processed completely in the digital domain, and give professional video quality (13.5 MHz, 8-bit, 4:2:2, DV quality). Ideal for use on large screens, and because the V-4 internal processing is digital there is no quality loss.
Independent 2-channel TBC / Frame Synchronizer :
The input sources go through independent 2-channel TBC (Time Base Correction) circuits to correct the time code, independent 2-channel Frame Synchronizers are also applied to the two sources at this stage. These processes enable smooth transitions and Dissolves, and ensuring stable images all the time.
Independent 2-channel Digital Effects :
V-4 features independent 2-channel Video effects that include a rich selection of digital effects (refer to spec sheet). The V-4 also features composition effects such as Picture-in-Picture, Chroma-key, and Luminance-key. The effects are recallable by a single button press.
Professional-use T-Bar Video Fader :

Professional-use T-Bar cross fades for quick and intuitive operation. A V-4 innovation is that you chose to attach the fade however you like, either, vertically as standard for video mixer, or horizontally as a DJ mixer fader. The fader resolution has over 100 steps and offers extremely smooth transitions. Its metal body as well as its fader is strong and durable to be used in your active performance.
Easy Operation :

V-4 is designed for its functions and operations to be clear from the front panel. Because it is simple to use its easy-to-use operation will enhance your realtime performance. Most of the V-4 functions can be selected and controlled without resorting to the manual.
Preview Function and On-Screen Menu :
The preview function is controlled by the source selection button, and enables the user to monitor each of the input sources 1-4 or the output source before transition, to a single preview monitor, no more multiple preview monitors! You can control V-4's major functions (Ex. Effect selection, MIDI input setting, etc.) from the dedicated preview screen using the convenient On-Screen Menu. I changed my ASUS V9560 with a POWERCOLOR RADEON 9800 PRO with 128 mo of 256 bit ram.
This result in enabling the Overlay out feature of Elektronika Live which saves about 40% of my P4@3Ghz ressources while sending out a Svid signal.

Ce model peut rendre bien des services, vraiment pas mal. Rien de comparable en contraste (2000 :1) et en luminosit� (1600 lumens) � moins de chercher au dessus de 3000/3500 euros. Pour +-900 euros, avec une lampe de 3000 heures c'est une r�volution.

Pour ma part, je ne suis pas du tout g�n� par la r�solution native 800X600, parce qu'il se passera encore du temps avant que je projette ne serait-ce que du PAL 1:1 (720X576, loin du 320X240 que j'utilise actuellement).

Enfin s'il fau trouver un d�faut, peut �tre que le zoom aurait pu �tre un petit peu plus puissant, histoire de ne pas l�ser les toutes petites salles, mais la surface de projection est tout a fait convenable d�s qu'on d�passe 4/5 m�tres de recul.

[PC CONFIGS] dcz's config

I always wanted to build a pc in a flight case, as laptops where deficient regarding to real time video editing and classic one too difficult to carry around (without talking about screens). So last spring, I decided to go for it.

I bought a cheap pc case, in order to take off all the needed fixing parts (for the motherboard and the pci&agp cards), and a turntable flight case and started to arrange.

J'ai toujours voulu me fabriquer un pc "transportable", parce que les portables n'ont pas autant de puissance et ne permettent pas les m�mes choses en vid�o temps r�el et que les tours ne sont pas faciles � transporter (sans parler de l'�cran). Donc, au printemps dernier, je me suis lanc�.

J'ai achet� une tour de base, histoire de r�cup�rer des fixations d�j� � la bonne taille (pour la carte m�re et pour les cartes agp&pci), une flight case pour platine et j'ai commenc� � bricoler.

By this time Maxtor hd where my best choice, I'd rather buy Seagate now, as I recently went through an incredible 5 in a row major failure with brand new SATA Maxtor hd while building another pc!
Asus still remains my best choice for motherboards.
I never overclock as for video practice, the need is for stability.

Au moment du montage de ce pc, les disques Maxtor �taient les plus robustes que je connaissais, mais aujourd'hui j'ach�terais plut�t des Seagate. En effet, je me suis r�cemment pay� une s�rie incroyable de 5 Maxtor SATA neuf foireux alors que je montais un autre pc!
Par contre, asus c'est toujours le top pour �viter toute sorte de conflits mat�riels et pour garantir les performances les plus stables.
Je ne pratique jamais d'overclocking car pour faire de la vid�o le plus important c'est la stabilit�.

This config could easily be built smaller using an agp riser card, but it's another story to test. I recently tried one which did not work but will continue searching. Here is an example of an agp riser card :
