dcz's config UPDATE : P4 3.2 Ghz 1mo L2 Cache

I upgraded again and changed my P4 3.0 Ghz 512KB L2 cache for a P4 3.2 Ghz 1mo L2 cache.
The difference, besides this one is almost too times hadrer to cool down, in not really obvious.
The 512KB L2 cache series seems to be really faster indeed to handle services start, more reactive, even with 200Mhz less clock speed, but the one meg series is really more stable when it comes to heavy memory bandwidth usage.
The memory bandwidth is about 45% faster and this is a good thing when it comes to Elektronika live!

Et encore une mise � niveau !

J'ai chang� mon P4 3.0 Ghz 512KB L2 cache pour un P4 3.2 Ghz 1mo L2 cache.
La diff�rence n'est pas vraiment �vidente, � part le fait qu'il chauffe beaucoup plus.
La s�rie des 512Kb cache est bien plus r�active, lance les services bien plus vite, m�me avec 200Mhz de moins, mais la s�rie des 1 meg est heureusement bien plus stable quand il s'agit de g�rer beaucoup de bande passante m�moire.
La bande passante ram est � peu pr�s 45% plus importante et c'est tr�s pratique pour utiliser Elektronika live!

I changed my ASUS V9560 with a POWERCOLOR RADEON 9800 PRO with 128 mo of 256 bit ram.
This result in enabling the Overlay out feature of Elektronika Live which saves about 40% of my P4@3Ghz ressources while sending out a Svid signal.

[PC CONFIGS] dcz's config

I always wanted to build a pc in a flight case, as laptops where deficient regarding to real time video editing and classic one too difficult to carry around (without talking about screens). So last spring, I decided to go for it.

I bought a cheap pc case, in order to take off all the needed fixing parts (for the motherboard and the pci&agp cards), and a turntable flight case and started to arrange.

J'ai toujours voulu me fabriquer un pc "transportable", parce que les portables n'ont pas autant de puissance et ne permettent pas les m�mes choses en vid�o temps r�el et que les tours ne sont pas faciles � transporter (sans parler de l'�cran). Donc, au printemps dernier, je me suis lanc�.

J'ai achet� une tour de base, histoire de r�cup�rer des fixations d�j� � la bonne taille (pour la carte m�re et pour les cartes agp&pci), une flight case pour platine et j'ai commenc� � bricoler.

By this time Maxtor hd where my best choice, I'd rather buy Seagate now, as I recently went through an incredible 5 in a row major failure with brand new SATA Maxtor hd while building another pc!
Asus still remains my best choice for motherboards.
I never overclock as for video practice, the need is for stability.

Au moment du montage de ce pc, les disques Maxtor �taient les plus robustes que je connaissais, mais aujourd'hui j'ach�terais plut�t des Seagate. En effet, je me suis r�cemment pay� une s�rie incroyable de 5 Maxtor SATA neuf foireux alors que je montais un autre pc!
Par contre, asus c'est toujours le top pour �viter toute sorte de conflits mat�riels et pour garantir les performances les plus stables.
Je ne pratique jamais d'overclocking car pour faire de la vid�o le plus important c'est la stabilit�.

This config could easily be built smaller using an agp riser card, but it's another story to test. I recently tried one which did not work but will continue searching. Here is an example of an agp riser card :

Ce �transportable� pourrait facilement devenir plus petit en utilisant une carte d'extension agp (agp riser card), mais il fau tester. J'en ai essay� une r�cemment qui ne marchais pas, mais je continu mes recherches. Voici un exemple de carte d'extension :
